NSW  Off Road Championship  Rnd 7  COLO PARK

20/21st November

The last round of the New South Wales Off Road Championship is to be held at Sydney off Road Racing Association’s home track at COLO PARK.  This will also be the last round in SORRA’s club Championship. The new Training room/Stewards/Medical/Dormitory room that was built with volunteer labour & a Grant from CAMS will be dedicated to the memory of Ross Barnes , a member who was an integral part of making COLO PARK what it is.

With the way the point score is set up , you are able to drop your worst two rounds and this year it is making the last race of the Championship at COLO PARK a must do for most of the protagonists. In the Prolite class, David Nikiforoff (190 ) has to run hard to ensure his top class spot, after his few problems at Nabiac have  left him vulnerable, to 136  Mick Latimore after his 3rd outright putting him in a position to topple him. The third spot for the year in this class is a real battle.  Kevin Ottey 112 with his good run at Milbrodale, Gordon Tardrew 133, Phil Page 148 (last year’s Champion) and Michael Spokes 116 all within a few points. The 116 car of Michael Spokes won outright at his last race , any of this four could take it ,with Steve Taylor 181 just out of it . This is just the cars in this Class fighting for their Championship points plus a few other quick buggies to make life  a little harder for them.

In Pro Class, 996 Murray Bignell’s non finish at his last outing means to keep his outright position, he now has to finish in front of 985 Peter Sowter and 19  Justin Guy (two points between them)

Super 1650 class is also a must win for last year’s Class Champion 279 Derek Rose , 212 Scott McNeil is leading this class at the moment, but not having run in 2 events, he cannot afford to miss this round for his chance at Class honours.  Chris Levi had a great shot for the top points but problems at Warialda &  didn’t front for Nabiac leaving the way open for 246 Shane McIntosh if he doesn’t front at Colo PARK. Laurence Cripps, Dick Alport, Hugh Austin and Carl Calcagano being some of the spoilers  in the mix.

Sportsman Class has the top spots already sorted but Billy Standing is a racer and likes the winning feeling and will be there for the  last race of the NSW Championship. Jarrod Eveliegh could tie for the third spot  with Katherine Wellings if he can emulate his efforts at Warialda. If Katherine comes down to race it will be interesting to see Alexandra Howells & Alicia Crowe, all three,( 2nd generation racers) in the same class doing battle. Gary Hyde(335) Joshua Howells and Gavin Sheppard will be keeping them all honest.

Paul Grant is hoping to have his gearbox repaired and back in the Oztruck( I guess its not that anymore, but they did put it all together here) to take his Daughter for a run, Dianne hasn’t been in a race for quite some time now. Warren Irons in the Hogs Breath Café sponsored Pink VW will be there to help fly the flag for Extreme 2WD .

In Performance 2WD  507 Mark –Paul Grant will be debuting his rebuilt and modified truck for his first race this year. Jan Hedley, if she runs at this race will qualify for 2nd place in her class in  the NSW Championship. 510 Murray Collins has this class in the bag but a finish at COLO would help make up for last time there.

Production 4WD has two cars running for the points and both need to be at this round to qualify for the end of year prize, Simon Lennox 767 is leading the class from David Adams 710 by just 7 points. Scott Lovett in the 705 car will be making it hard for either of them to get a clear run at the full points on offer. Looking forward to seeing you all there for lots of top racing and for the dedication of “ROSS’s BARN”.
