THE BEAST

The McClintock Motorsport Truggy

Based on the all conquering Terrible Herbst Truggy in the USA and built to suit Australian rules and conditions (though on a slightly tighter budget!) The Beast is fitted with a 5.7ltr Gen 3 V8, backed up with a 2 speed Powerglide.  With 20" of wheel travel and 33" inch tyres it should be a whole lot of fun to drive!!

The transition from class 9 to class 1 will provide long time pit crew, welder, friend and brother-in-law Nick to come along and change tyres for me out on the track, as well as in the pits (those 33" tyres are heavy man).

The project is coming along well and I hope to have all the suspension and steering finished mid to late August with the hope of starting some testing at Christmas.  We will race selected rounds of the NSW state championship 2004 and have a crack at the nationals in 2005.

It would have been impossible to take on a project like this without the help of the following people, without which it would remain just a dream forever.

Bob Mowbray of Hunter Rivmasta.
Phil Ryal of BRS Motorsport.
Nick MacGregor.
Adam Barnacoat.
The person who buys my class 9 car!!
And of course Penny for giving me permission.

Aaron McClintock

Updated 7 July

The Beast has been completed, dyno'd, tested, stripped, painted, tested, stripped again and rebuilt and is finally ready for its first event at the Tip Top Milbrodale Mountain Classic on the 24th and 25th of July.  The McClintock Motorsport team are currently checking to make sure that every bolt is tight, every line is bled and every pair of underwear is dark coloured.  With 20" of travel and buckets of Gen III torque and power it should be a sight to behold!

At the Boyd Motorsport Products workshop:

The Truggy has been over 12 months in the making.  A fair amount of blood, sweat and many tears have gone into the creation of what should prove to be one of the most exciting cars in the country.  No doubt it should attract quite a crowd in the paddock at Milbrodale.

As mentioned above, I would like to thank Bob Mowbray, Nick MacGregor, Adam Barnacoat, Phil Ryal, and everyone else who helped with thier time, advice and assistance.

I would also like to thank...
Geoff "Speilberg" Basden - camera man
Ian Boyd - camera man & tyre guru
Ross Barnes - camera man and profile cutter
Swanny - Matt Martin @ Revolution Smash Repairs
Greg Nolan @ Noltec Suspesion components
All the guys at Kerse Engineering
AC Delco
Australian CV and powersteer.

I'd also like to thank all my friends and family, after 18 months of complete neglect they are still talking to me!  Penny even tells me that she still loves me!  bonus!

I would like to give a special thanks to Penny who has also had to live and breathe truggies for the past 18 months.

Cheers,  Aaron.

I would personally like to thank Aaron and the McClintock Motorsport team for providing an inside look into the construction of the truggy and allowing us to follow the build process from the basic jigged chassis to the first event.  Here's hoping the first event is a very successful one!    Webmaster.
